Streetscapes Mosaic Project
The Stretscapes Mosaic Workshops, which were a project of the munipcalWORKSHOP and the Coleman Center for Arts and Culture, took place during the summer of 2004 by Richard Saxton and Linda Munoz. Saxton designed mosaic slabs based on the microscopic cell structure of trees indigenous to Sumter County, AL. Glass artist Linda Munoz then led workshops with local school children to complete the mosaics, which were installed in damaged city side walks. Local tree farmer Charles Munoz donated a number of trees that were planted next to the mosaics, which serve to visually enhance the city as well as provide a creative solution to civic problems.
