Coleman Center for the Arts Education Program
The Coleman Center for the Arts Education Program was designed in partnership with long term resident artist Garland Farwell. The program offers year round after school and summer programs for area youth, and special programs for people of all ages. All classes are free and open to the public, and materials are provided.
After School: The After School Program takes place Tuesday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 for students ages 10 to 18. Students will learn skills in drawing, painting, design, and sculpture as they work with Garland Farwell and visiting artists on individual and community projects. Classes in the fall term will be in session from August 25th through December 4th.
Saturday Program: The Saturday Program is open to students ages 10 to 18. Classes take place on Saturdays from August 29th through December 12th from 10 AM to 12 PM. This “Intro to Art” class will include painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, mask making, and puppetry.
Annual Education Exhibition: The Annual Education Exhibition will take place on Friday, November 20th, and will feature work from all of the Coleman Center’s Education Programs and Farwell’s work with schools and community groups from around Alabama.
All programs are free and open to the public. A parental permission slip must be filed in advance. Please call the Coleman Center for the Arts (205.392.2005) for more information or to sign up for a class.
