Sumter County Fine Arts Council Annual Juried Art Show
The Coleman Center for the Arts and the Sumter County Fine Arts Council are hosting their Annual Juried Art Show at the Coleman Center for the Arts from
February 8th to April 3rd. The opening reception will take place Friday, February 8th from 6 to 8 pm.
This juried show features the artwork of Sumter County artists, and $600 in cash prizes were awarded at the openning reception. Anne Arrasmith and Peter Prinz, founding co-directors of the Alabama arts organization Space One Eleven in Birmingham, were the guest jurors. They were impressed by the number of passionate artists from Sumter County, and the vibrancy and range of their work. They hope to visit us in York again soon, and convey their congratulations to all who entered.
1st place was awarded to Mary Jane Everett for Seed Spinner, 2nd Place to James Cockrell for his Rocking Chair, and 3rd Place was given to Peggy Holcombe for her painting, Old Man. Honorable mentions were awarded to Louise M. Boyd for the drawing Out of Shape, Pat Ezell for his painting Hendrick’s Last Kill, Sheila Hull for her painting O Holy Night, Linda Munoz for the photograph, Dots Regarding Dots, Willie Ann Poe for her quilt titlea Gettie Up Mule, Farming in the Black Belt, and Lindy Woods for her painting, Riding for the Brand.
This annual show is a chance to showcase the artistic talent of Sumter County, and for local artists to receive feedback and recognition for their work from an accomplished juror. This year's show features painting, basketry, quilts, glass work, furniture, ceramics, mixed media, and photography.
Entrants should pick up their artworks at the Coleman Center gallery in York on Friday, April 4th from 10am to 12 PM and 1 PM to 4 PM, and Saturday, April 5th from 9 AM to 12 PM.
The Coleman Center would like to thank the Sumter County Fine Arts Council, the University of West Alabama, the Sumter County Fine Arts Council Annual Juried Art Show Committee, Anne Arrasmith and Peter Prinz, and all of the artists who participated to make this year’s show a tremendous success.
