Of Space and Place, Jessica Smith, January 27 to February 24, 2006
Jessica Smith, a professor of visual arts at the University of West Alabama, will be exhibiting her ceramics work beginning this week at the Coleman Center for Arts and Culture in York, Alabama. The exhibition, titled Of Space and Place, will commence with an opening reception from 6-8pm this Friday evening.
Smith, who grew up in Chicago and has studied at Alfred, Tulane, and Harvard University, as well as the Art Institute of Chicago, says of her work “The field of ceramics has substantial history between small functional teapots, inventive sculptural statements, and colossal urban architecture. My value and use of the medium of ceramics is somewhere in between this minutia and monumental. The work displayed in Of Space and Place demonstrates my interest in object making, spatial ordering, and architectonic interaction.”
The work will be on display at the Coleman Center from January 27th through February 27th, and the opening reception will take place this Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM in the Coleman Center gallery.
