MASH UP turns the Coleman Center gallery into a collaborative space for artist projects, research, and community events. The show will be ongoing from May 6th August 14th.
Community Sing, Samita Sinha and Stephanie Loveless, May 6th, 6pm
Artists Samita Sinha and Stephanie Loveless will be holding a “Community Sing.” The public is invited to sing together with their neighbors and share reflections about community. Audrey Graves of Truevine Fellowship Church and John Brown of Livingston First Presbyterian will be co-leading the event. Based on the work of late poet and performance artist Sekou Sundiata this Community Sing uses traditional folklore to spark contemporary dialogue. Activities will include singing and talking about well known American and folk songs, and learning songs form different traditions and languages.
Alfredo Jaar, Lecture on Tuesday, June 1st 6-8 pm & Seminar (private event) on Thursday, June 3rd, 5 pm
Alfredo Jaar is a Chilean born artist, architect, and filmmaker who lives and works in New York City. Over the last four decades his projects and public interventions have been realized around the globe. In these events Jaar will begin research for a new public intervention to be located in York.
Jaar’s work has been widely exhibited in the United States and abroad, including at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, and at Documenta 11. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1985 and in 2000 received the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship. Jaar was recently featured on the PBS documentary series on contemporary art, Art: 21.
