Calling all Sumter County youth ages 8-18: you are invited to “Move Yourself” as you experiment in visual, performing and culinary arts at the Coleman Center for the Arts’ one-week summer camp! Camp will run June 4-8, Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm, with a closing celebration on June 9 from 6-8 pm.
This year the activities of camp will focus on movement. Campers will consider how we move through the world, what movement looks and sounds like, how different movements can tell a story, and how ideas can move. Participants will gain experience in drawing, painting, computer animation, music, creative writing and critical thinking. Camp offers one track for campers age 8-12 and on for campers 13-18, each tailored to the needs and interests of participants. Varied, tasty and balanced lunches will be provided every day.
An all-star group of artists and educators will lead sessions at the Coleman Center for the Arts’ Summer Camp. Instructors include Garland Farwell, John Brown, Catherine Shelton, Kanita Sturdivant, Nathan Purath, Shana Berger, Jocelyn Edens and Erik Witherspoon!
Space is limited to 20 campers, so don’t wait too long to get moving! Register now to reserve your space by filling out this form and returning it to the CCA at 630 Avenue A in York. Forms are also available at the Hightower Library, the Ruby Pickens Tartt Library, Sumter Central High School, Sumter Academy, York West End Jr. High, Livingston Jr. High, Kinterbish Jr. High and North Sumter Jr. For more information please call 205-392-2005 or email colemancenter@gmail.com.
