Shake It Up: Create and Communicate

Shake It Up: Create and Communicate

The Coleman Center for the Arts is pleased to announce that Art Club will begin meeting again on Tuesday, August 27. Art Club is an opportunity for Sumter County youth ages 12-18 to build skills in visual thinking and gain pre-college experience in a safe and alternative space. Students will meet at the Coleman Center on Tuesdays from 4 to 6pm.

This fall students will investigate grassroots publishing and do-it-yourself design and media. As a means to be heard and share their ideas, opinions, and creativity with their community and peers, students will learn how to make their own zines, posters, and artist’s books. Students will explore how artists, designers, writers, activists, and everyday people have used these forms in the past and present to communicate, create, raise awareness, and shake things up. Creative writing, graphic design, book making, photography, and illustration will be considered as effective methods of expression and communication in these popular publishing forms. Students will get a snack at every session. In December, the Coleman Center will host a public presentation of the work completed in Art Club.

Anyone interested in art, design, community, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving is encouraged to join us this fall. Come to the Coleman Center on Tuesday, August 27th from 4 to 6 pm!
