Material Memory
Community Arts Workshop for All Ages
December 9, 1pm-3pm
The Coleman Center for the Arts is pleased to host Material Memory, a community arts workshop in collaboration with local textile artist Lillie Mack. Friends, parents, kids, siblings, cousins, grandparents, and besties are invited to explore memories and make art together. Community workshops are designed for multiple generations–friends and family of any age are encouraged to register together and share this creative learning experience.
Artist Lillie Mack and Curator of Education Boo Gilder will help participants design original artworks inspired by contemporary textile art, regional quilting techniques, DIY spirit, and vernacular traditions. Using fabric and shared memories, participants will work together to create a textile collage based on personal narratives. The resulting artwork will be a 11 x 14 wall hanging made of recycled and hand-painted fabrics in the tradition of memory quilts.
All materials will be provided. Participants are also encouraged to bring fabric with special meaning to include in the artwork. Display your new artwork proudly at home or give it as a holiday gift!
All ages! Free!!! Snacks included! Space is limited and registration is required. Registration forms are available to download HERE or at the Hightower Memorial Library. If your party has more than two participants, simply turn in additional registration forms!
The workshop will take place at the Coleman Center for the Arts’ Altman Riddick Gallery at 630 Avenue A in York.
