Mildred’s Moments: Book Signing

Author and activist Mildred Delaine Black will share and sign her newest work Mildred’s Moments. Coleman Center staff and Sumter County community members will read from Black’s recent and previously published books. Readers include Curator of Education Elizabeth Gilder, retired educator and Hightower Memorial Library Director Edna Williams, Hightower Memorial Librarian Glenda James, Bettye Maye, and Jeanette Presswood.

Mildred Delaine Black is the author of four books including Twelve Plus: A Biography of Lawrence Delaine, Kinterbish Connection, Sixty-One Years: A Journey of Partnership, and Mildred’s Moments. 

Mrs. Black was born to Lawrence and Joanna Delaine. She is known as a loving wife, mother, educator and human rights advocate throughout the Alabama Black Belt.

She taught in the Sumter County School System for 40 years. Since the mid-1960s she has been actively engaged in the human and civil rights activism. She received her Bachelors of Science from Alabama State University and Masters of Education from Tuskegee University. Mrs. Black is a member at Grants Chapel CME Church and the longest sitting board member for the Coleman Center for the Arts.
