Zuri Keyetta “Homecoming” Inaugural Exhibition

Oh what a night! Congratulations to Visual Artist Zuri Keyetta on a very successful Opening Night, Artist Talk, and Reception at the Coleman Center for the Arts! Surrounded by family, friends, and new art patrons, Zuri shared her triumphs and challenges as a working artist that also holds down a “traditional” job, and how she maintains a passion for her craft.

Zuri Keyetta is a self taught visual artist born and raised in York, Alabama. Currently residing in Huntsville, Zuri is returning to her hometown to present “Homecoming,” her inaugural art gallery exhibition. Join us for an Artist Talk on Opening Night on Saturday, July 9! The exhibition runs from July 9 – September 9. The gallery is open from 10AM – 2PM, Monday – Friday. Call us to schedule an appointment outside of those hours; we are happy to accommodate our visitors.

“Homecoming” consists of 14 original works that reflect Keyetta’s style and subject matter (primarily Black women in their natural states of existence) of various dimensions; primarily acrylic on canvas.

There were many takeaways and fantastic moments from opening night; here are a few that we’d like to share:

-Zuri’s collection, “Homecoming” really resonates with the community

-Her art feels like a reflection of the place that she and so many others proudly call home. Zuri noted that being from a small town has not hindered her from pursuing her passion or seeking opportunities in art

-Zuri gained three new art patrons on opening night.   Congratulations!

In addition to the family, friends and art patrons in attendance, the City of York’s Mayor Willie Lake and other city officials came out to support our local artist at her inaugural exhibition. Thank y’all!
