Alfredo Jaar Seminar

The Coleman Center for the Arts is pleased to announce that international artist Alfredo Jaar will be talking about his artwork in York next week. The event will take place on Tuesday June 1st, 2010 at 6 PM. The talk will be followed by a reception with food by the Trackside Blues Cafe and homemade pie from Pie Lab of Greensboro, Alabama. The event is free and open to the public and all are welcome! Please come and join the excitement!

In the following days Jaar will also invite a preselected group to join him in an artist led seminar. This group will spend an evening discussing issues that effect the York community. Insights will then be used as the basis for Jaar’s upcoming public intervention in York.

Afredo Jaar is a Chilean born artist, architect, and filmmaker who lives and works in New York City. Over the last four decades his projects and public interventions have been realized around the globe. In Jaar’s upcoming visit to the Coleman Center he will begin research for a new public roject to be located in York.

Jaar’s work has been widely exhibited in the United States and abroad, including at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, and at Documenta 11. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1985 and in 2000 received the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship. Jaar was recently featured on the PBS documentary series on contemporary art, Art: 21.
