Art Club Spring 2012: Food + Art

Students between the age of 12 and 18 are invited to join Art Club at the Coleman Center for the Arts in York. Art Club is an opportunity for Sumter County youth to build skills in visual thinking and gain pre-college experience in a safe and alternative space. Students will meet at the Coleman Center on Thursdays from 4 to 6.

This semester, Art Club students will think about relationships between art, food and community. You will prepare new meals, work in the Coleman Center’s community garden, interact with artists who deal with food in person and via Skype, and think about how creative problem-solving could address local and national food issues. In April, participating students will use the culinary skills they have learned and the new food ideas they have investigated to produce a pop-up restaurant in York.

Any teenage students interested in learning new cooking skills, thinking about how food and art relate to each other, and creative problem-solving is encouraged to join us this spring. Students who want to come to the Coleman Center from Sumter Central High School can get a bus pass from the central office with parent/guardian consent. For more information please contact the Coleman Center for the Arts at 205.392.2005 or colemancenter@gmail.com.
