In July and August of 2020, seven students participated in two workshops – Making Art in Public II and History-Making & Storytelling – with visiting artists Zarouhie Abdalian and Ashley Hunt respectively. The former was the second iteration of Abdalian’s Making Art in Public workshop series. This Spring Abdalian completed a public exhibition of six student proposals in the Coleman Center’s Pop Start A windows in downtown York, AL.
The workshop was artist lead including Abdalian, then Program Manager and artist Carey Fountain, and multiple workshop guests. It also centered peer-lead learning; students researched, made presentations, and gave constructive criticism. This culminated in six proposals for monuments and/or memorials in Sumter County, AL. Students developed the following, now exhibited works:
