The Coleman Center for the Arts and the Sumter County Fine Arts Council is currently hosting the Annual Juried Art Show at the Coleman Center gallery through April 24th.
This year’s show features painting, drawing, basketry, quilts, furniture, ceramics, mixed media, bead-work, and photography by artists of Sumter County. The Annual Juried Art Show is an opportunity for local artists to showcase their artwork and receive recognition and feedback from an accomplished juror. Dr. Kelly Wacker, Associate Professor of Art and Gallery Director at the University of Montevallo, was the guest juror. Dr. Wacker was impressed by the talent and dedication of the artists in the show, as well as the diverse subjects and media.
1st place was awarded to Nick Davis for his mixed media work I Put a Spell on You, 2nd place was awarded to Peggy Holcombe for her painting Fox, and 3rd was awarded to Mary Jane Everett for her woven basket entitled Disk. Honorable mention was awarded to Anne Enoch for her painting Jet, Tracy Bullock for the painting Rooster Row, Karen Castleman for her charcoal drawing Make a Play, Willie Poe for her lap quilt Rosa Parks, Stevee-ann Childress for the ceramic work Hedgley the Dragon, and James Cockrell for his wood furniture piece Chair.
The Coleman Center for the Arts would like to thank the Sumter County Fine Arts Council, the University of West Alabama, the Sumter County Fine Arts Council Annual Juried Art Show Committee, Dr. Kelly Wacker, and all of the participating artists whose dedication helped make this yet another very successful show.
