Y. Malik Jalal: of Joy & Terror

The Coleman Center for the Arts is pleased to present of Joy & Terror, a solo exhibition of sculptures, textile works, and paintings by Atlanta-based artist Y. Malik Jalal. Works in this exhibition bring together themes including but not limited to Afrocentricity and afro-futurism of the 1970s to the present, southern folk traditions, Kemetism, contemporary black spiritualism, and found object art.

There will be no opening reception due to the ongoing COVID 19 global pandemic. We strive to keep all of our employees and visitors safe. During all of our programs, we ask that our patrons are masked at all times and stay socially distanced. Virtual or COVID-safe, outdoor programming is tentatively being planned in conjunction with the exhibition.

Y. Malik Jalal is an artist based in Atlanta, GA. He received his BA in Studio Art from Oglethorpe University in 2016. Jalal was born in Savannah, GA, and raised in the Atlanta suburbs. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Atlanta Contemporary and Alabama Contemporary, in Mobile. His first book, A Brief History of the World Vol. 1, was published in 2020 in conjunction with For Keeps Books, Atlanta.
