York’s Community Memory Map consists of two large abstracted maps of the City of York that have been filled in with memories, photographs, drawings, stories, poems, and collages created by local community members. The topics range from the youth’s “favorite things about York” to poems by York native Mary Zeno, and newspaper collage by Mary Jane Everett that documents the selling of the downtown buildings that now comprise part of the York Arts District. This project is meant to bring together all community members in the common goal of reflecting on the past to juxtapose individual perceptions with collective identity.
