Art Club: Movie Theater

May 6, 2011

The Coleman Center for the Arts is pleased to host a temporary movie theater developed and operated by students in Art Club, the Center’s after school program. Movies will be shown on Friday May 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th in the Coleman Center gallery. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and movies will start at 7 pm.

Throughout the month of May the theater will show a comedy, a drama, a musical, and an animated feature. Come to watch a movie, eat fresh popcorn, and spend time with friends and family. Everyone is invited and encouraged to come support the group of Sumter County youth who have taken on the challenge of producing a movie theater!

The theater is a project of the Coleman Center’s after school Art Club. Participating students have worked together to pick movies, design posters, and advertise the theater. Through the project, students have learned about different film genres and time periods. They have gained exciting experience in independent work, group decision-making, graphic design, persuasive writing, and entrepreneurship.

Keep an eye out for posters and newspaper articles throughout the month of May, advertising the movie of the week. Please join us in celebrating our community youth and the beginning of summer!
