Film Screening: Cobweb Codex

The Coleman Center welcomed Birmingham-based artists Jasper Lee for a screening of their experimental short film Cobweb Codex, with an opening live performance with the artist’s Sweat Wreath collaborators.

Lee is a musician and artist; he works across video, film, sound, and installation exploring aspects of ritual, folklore, and the Southern landscape. Through Cobweb Codex, Lee investigates how our landscapes are impacted by obscured power structures, pollution, and propaganda. In the work, Lee combines Super 8mm footage of Alabama’s industrial landscape, D.I.Y. animation techniques, diary entries, and sounds from field recordings conducted in the region.

Lee curates Sweet Wreath, an art-music label in central Alabama that amplifies original voices through the publishing of albums, zines, and poetic literature.

The program is supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
